Podcast addict – What I’m listening to January 2019

A number of years ago someone told me about an amazing podcast I needed to listen to. At the time, I wasn’t into podcasts. I was a bit hesitant about the format. A few months later I gave in, started listening and never looked back.

I like to listen to podcasts when I’m walking, shopping and doing things around the house. I have different podcasts I like depending on mood, the amount of time I have, and the amount of attention I will be paying to the podcast. I have become a podcast addict.

I thought I would share with you a few of the podcasts I am listening to right now.

Note: I have provided iTunes links as that is where I listen to these. But most, if not all are available on other podcasting platforms.

Something uplifting – This is Love

If you’ve heard of Criminal, This is Love is by the same team. It follows the Criminal methodology following the topic of Love through fascinating and intriguing stories. It’s something to listen to if you need your heart warmed or a smile. My favourite episode so far is Episode 2: Something large in the wild. No spoilers, I’ll let you see for yourself.

Listen and learn – Easy Japanese

I’ve been learning Japanese, and with a busy lifestyle it can be hard to get to lessons and practice. I’ve found these podcasts from NHK World a very helpful supplement when I can’t take classes. Each episode is structured around a word or phrase in a practical context. Each of the episodes I’ve listened to so far has a bonus explanation of Japanese onomatopoeia, which is fascinating and cute. There is also a bunch of supporting material on their website which is brilliant for the self-paced learner.

My number one – Sword and Scale

I’ve been listening to Sword and Scale for years now, and am a paid subscriber. If you’re not into True Crime then it’s probably not for you. But if you have an interest and like well researched, produced and narrated content it’s one I highly recommend. The same team have just started a new podcast collaboration named Monstruo… I’m only a couple of episodes in and it is not for the feint of heart.

*Edit 16/03/2019: I am not longer a paid supporter of Sword and Scale. I enjoyed the podcast for a long time, and believe it has historically been a high quality and well resourced production. As of the time I write this edit information came to light about the podcast and it’s producer which influenced my decision to longer support it. Currently considering which of my other favourite podcasts I can support with my monthly donation money.

I’d love to hear what you’re listening to that’s new. Post below. I will share my many other favourites and finds in future posts.
